Things that should be stopped at Indian workplace

It's 2025! There are a lot of things that are wrong at our workplace and I think it's high time we stop them for our own sake:

  1. Work Life Balance, obviously tops the list. 9 to 5/6 should be 9 to 5/6 strictly, goes for both employees and employers. No working on nights and weekends!
  2. Culture of calling 'sir'😑. Yup, still exists in a lot of companies. This is usually followed by hierarchy & fear.
  3. Promote Hybrid or WFH culture - given our population, traffic, costs, and time. Still don't know why some companies want us to work for 5 days from office
  4. Rejection of our Earned Leaves. Like seriously😑? How can someone reject my week's vacation🙆?
  5. Discrimination and favoritism over gender, caste, region and what not🤮
  6. Zero f***s given about mental health🙏
  7. Notice Period - companies have 3 months notice period but wants everyone to join immediately🤷. Hypocrisy at its best! They can layoff in a day but we can't leave in a month. RIP Logic!
  8. Lack of clear communication - be it about salaries, promotions, work in general, mental health etc. Managers often ignore talking to their employees when it matters.
  9. Giving minimal hikes for current employees, but hire new ones at market rate.
  10. Internal Politics - damn too much, everyday, at every level.

I am sure there are more. Keep adding to the list!

Disagree with point no 2.

I think calling sir and ma’am should be there and endorsed. Reason- It saves energy and set things smooth. I often feel I am calling people more than 10 years older than me by name, over call. Now I have to put more energy into saying it in a tone that’s not too much to hurt their fragile ego or does not sounds disrespectful. That’s the first line of communication and you think for yourself if a guy much younger than you say your name directly, you would not feel comfortable.

By saying sir/ma’am it naturally sets a tone of respect

A guy 5 years younger than me calls me by name. My clients are of age 40, even 60 - I call them by name. None of us mind. All of us still respect each other, need not set a separate tone for it

Experience letters, extensive BGV using PF account should be illegal. Idk why govt gives access of PF history to employers. This puts too much power in the hand of employers, and none with the employee.

Also the concept of experience letter, HR would treat you as fresher if you don't have experience letter from previous company even if you have 5 yr experience. I don't see this culture in the US/EU. You take n number of rounds of highly technical interviews and still you don't trust the candidate?

Most of these points are symptoms of a low trust society. You cannot change the culture without changing the mindset of our society.

Hopefully it'll be better for the next generation

There is no strict law for IT companies in India, hence these issues

Indian govt should allow only MNCs and companies with good work culture.

If MNCs can not have good work culture govt should ask them to roll back their operations.

Agree 200% on all the listed points. They have ample of funds to hire new candidate with a minimum of 30% to his salary. But, to the person already working from years, only 2-5%. What in the universe the logic is ?

What's the issue with that?

Agree with all of them, I feel companies know about the economy and the job market, hence they have suddenly become ruthless and inhumane as well. It accross sectors, departments and organisations
