Overthinking can be so overwhelming, but there are a few things you can try to help distract yourself and ease those thoughts.
First, focus on grounding yourself: take slow, deep breaths for a minute, inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 4, and exhale for 4 to calm your mind. Then try focusing on just one small thing at a time like focusing yourself with your senses:

  • Name 5 things you see
  • 4 things you can touch
  • 2 things you can smell
  • 1 thing you can taste

It helps bring you back to the present, even for a few minutes. Also, don’t isolate, if you can, just talk it out, even if it’s messy. I’m sure there are many here to talk (including myself) if you need to vent.

If the thoughts creep back when you close the app, try jotting them down quickly on paper and telling yourself you’ll deal with them later, which can break the overthinking cycle.
