On another similar platform, Blind, there are unspoken rules, one of which is TC or GTFO. As an OP, you are required to share your TC and YOE in your post; otherwise, community members may choose not to participate. This practice proves beneficial in understanding industry pay culture.
Grapevine is used by tech as well as non-tech folks, for career as well as non-career related discussions. I think the user group and use-cases for Grapevine are slightly different from Blind.
TC and GTFO is unnecessary toxicity that I feel we don't need here.
So does Blind. Basically Grapevine is the Indian version of Blind. I am part of this community since they started on Discord. There also while joining you had to share your CTC. Also, toxicity is everywhere and TC or GTFO pros are far more than cons.
Both of you have interesting perspectives. But we should ask the people who get hurt by all this more what they feel.
To make it different from other apps
Both have similar agendas. Then why not some similar unsaid rules. Also I believe that culture is one of the main reasons behind its popularity.
They will create a JIRA ticket for it when they have time in near future perhaps.

Blind is shit now. Endless spam and useless posts. Entire blind can be summed with few keywords like H1B, desi, marriage, moving back.

They did release the salary feature as a way to keep update to date information.
Because it's toxic. Forcing someone to reveal their TV everywhere is as bad as companies forcing you NOT to reveal your tc.
Revealing salary should be voluntary but encouraged. Forcing it like blind is just toxic.
For people who aren't familiar with Blind, Grapevine is an Indian version of Blind. Both support anonymity and company tagging. One difference is that you can't sign up on Blind to post/comment without your company's email-id.
