Great Place to Work?
The entire Great Place to Work is a scam, right? One of those 'you pay, you claim' memberships. Can someone enlighten me?
Does anyone else feels that whichever company gets the certification of "great place to work" actually turns out to be a shitty toxic place?
The irony of this!! The places which didn't bother about such certifications were so much better in their policies and employee first culture. No fucks given to any external validation.. just casually going about their business and letting the employees become their ambassador for postive word of mouth.
When a metric becomes a target, it ceases to be a good metric.
I mean, not revenue and net profit surely?
not surely, people can maximize revenue and profits by exploiting employees, underpaying them ans cheating customers. is an apple sweatshop in china a good company? im pretty sure their profits are through the roof.
Bullshit certification.
So I was fascinated with these labels until our company made it mandatory to fill the survey and had one person overlooking while we sugar coated our experiences.
And HR would mail, please ensure all have submitted our views and help company become a great place to work.

Ayo Housing is the 3rd best place to work in India. Brb... applying Wonder why people make such a big fuss about Google and stuff
Don't apply - you might get laid off without giving the appropriate reason
Risk hai toh ishq hai @Jesusbaba I'm just kidding
So true. I've worked at a place that fussed so much over GPTW but wasn't a great place to work at all.
I've also worked at a place that didn't fuss about all these certifications at all - that place was heavenly. Although, I recently saw them advertising getting such a certification too :(
Which one was it (the first one), if you can share?
Yea I remember working in a large bank which have this annual Global people survey to see pulse of company and all the managers forces their people to give better results so as to get in their manager’s good books and once one guy got 101 out of 100 for this team. 😂😂😂
PTSD trigger!!
Pretty standard affair in most corp. what rankles is every year some BS people leader will rise from their slumber around the time of the survey, draw up an action plan to basically- do nothing! But on the flip side people always want more of the good and less of the bad, so the the co. needs to draw a balance.
Gptw ratings are total shit. I've personally seen managers reaching out to all employees and telling them to fill 5stars in all boxes.
Makes sense, since bezoscorp seems to have the most such certifications
Even my x company treats freshers as slaves and have them 2 years of bond people crying inside closed Banking ODCs
Are bonds considered legal? I thought Section 27 of the Indian Contract Act prohibits such behaviour. Know it's true for non-competes. Bonds might require some interpretation I guess.
Yup Indian law mandates the employment bonds. to be “reasonable” in order to be valid. The term reasonable remains undefined anywhere in the IndianThe Indian courts have held that in the event of a breach of contract by the employee, the employer shall be entitled to recover damages only if a considerable amount of expenditure was borne by the employer. Indian law mandates the employment bonds to be “reasonable” in order to be valid. The term reasonable remains undefined anywhere in the Indian law and therefore the courts have given meaning to “reasonable” depending upon the facts and circumstances of the cases. The proposition which has emerged till now is that conditions stipulated in the contract should be necessary to protect the interest of the employer and compensate the loss caused by breach of contract. Additionally, the penalty or compulsory employment period stipulated should not exorbitant.
I currently work at a company which is definitely one of the best places to work and always keeps on improving its policies. Since, last two years they are GPTW certified also. My understanding is that most GPTW certified companies have good policies, if not the best.
I mean I'm sure that some companies with the title would actually be a GPTW. But most seem to have cracked the code and just force employees to hand out positive reviews.
Here's hoping yours continues to be one of the exceptions 🥂
