My wife works in a leading private bank as a Deputy Manager (front desk) A fraud happened in May 2024 where the fraudster came to the branch and tells ‘Can you please let me know the charges on my account xyz’ My wife by mistakenly without asking any govt ID, told him the charges and the fraudster saw the account balance on the screen. That’s how the sitting arrangement is maintened in the bank. The fraudster then went to a different branch and successfully withdrew Rs 5lac using that cheque. The cheque was also forged but the bank employee didn’t properly check and cleared it. The customer later filed FIR on the bank and bank gave back the amount to the account holder. They didn’t catch the fraudster. Later in Sept, my wife got an email where the committee wants to know what actually happened in the case and they opened a committee. All proceedings, video conferencing got completed in Nov-Dec and we thought the case is closed since she has not done anything so wrong. But then yesterday the ethics and code of conduct committee taken a disciplinary action against her and THEY DISMISSED HER from her job. Bank said that in this case they will not provide relieving letter to her and only experience letter will be given. Why it is so concerning is because in banking industry, without relieving letter none of the big banks like ICICI, HDFC etc will provide you the job. Now in order to work, she has to take a step back and work in NBFC or local company with lower paycheck. It all looks so easy but in reality when you face it becomes too tough to accept it. In her 9years of total service and around 3years with Axis bank, she has not done anything unethical. And suddenly out of nowhere they have jeopardised her career in seconds, whereas the folks who cleared the cheque and other people were just given a warning and no action is taken against them. All of her seniors like Cluster Head, Circle Head, no one care to help. What kind of senior management is there, who can’t even help their teammate when she needs them the most. We all know that there is no point in fighting this legally. There are 100s of applications already there in court and justice is still pending for years. We will be screwed both in terms of money and time Everything changed with his one decision. We were planning to start a family, vacations, our Anniversary was in coming month and there is utter silence in the room. This confident hardworking woman is so depressed now and I feel so miserable that I cannot do anything. Now we realised why elder people says ‘Private waalo ka kya bharosa kab nikaalde’ I really wish this bad time pass in coming months and things get back to normal.
