Why do we celebrate ourselves on our birthday?

OK hear me out. Our birthday is day we got introduced to this world, no work no effort on our end. Our mothers pushed us out after 9 months. Then why do we celebrate and take gifts when we didn't really do anything

Had the same thought.

Now I realise it’s an excuse to connect with friends / family. I make it a point to call a few of my friends on their birthday - at least I talk to them because of that. Same for family and friends - opportunity to get together with people that I care about. I can say organising a dinner for a friends birthday and can expect people to make time for it and come vs. saying hey been a long time, let’s meet and it doesn’t happen.

It's a celebration of surviving one more year. Mortality rate was very high few decades ago.

That makes sense

Because we wouldn't have achieved anything if we weren't even born in the first place

Some don't achieve anything even after being born, ye kya logic hua yaar

Being born is the first and an important step to achieving something.
It's basically like celebrating marriage even though the marriage/ family has just begun and we don't know if it will be a good one or a bad one

A chance to look back and reflect on the past and decide about the future? Ponder over our hits and misses over the last year? And/Or just an excuse to find an occasion to celebrate with our loved ones.

To remind yourself that life is slipping away and you're not getting any younger. Pull your socks up and do something to be happy-ish

So you should only celebrate achivements in life and not events?

Not against the event, but we are celebrating the wrong person here imo
