If manager directly comes to manage is is unsure of what is backend and frontend and database. Felt the same issue when I met my Manager at pwc india.

So, what does an R&D Manager really do, different than a Technical Manager?

🔹 R&D Managers drive innovation, exploring emerging technologies, prototyping new ideas, and shaping the company’s long-term strategy. They thrive in uncertainty, taking high-risk bets that may redefine the industry in the future. Metrics like patents, PoCs, and adoption of new tech define their success.
🔹 Technical Managers ensure execution, stability, and scalability. They lead engineering teams to build and maintain reliable software, focusing on quality, efficiency, and delivery. Their success is measured by uptime, code quality, and project timelines.

Can a test engineer having experience majorly in Automation testing become Technical manager? Or what's a better option for someone with 8+ yoe in sap testing or automation testing in general? Please share your insights

In these times , better to stick to technical manager if you are in consulting industry. I have seen non tech folks kicked away so easily.
