I'm wondering the exact same thing. I tend to perform best when I feel the manager/CEO support me and give me the freedom to experiment and try different hypotheses.
Better pay helps for a month or two then you start feeling underpaid again.
I don’t think it’s about pay after a point of time. We had this issue with an employee. We increased his pay by 40% and he had absolutely no improvement. we had to lay him off.
