Unpopular opinion: "I don't work just for Money" is overrated
I have been thinking about all the posts in this weekend about resignations, career breaks and so on. I myself went through such psychological stress. Suddenly, this Sunday morning, it clicked. Some of us busy playing so much status games, that we eventually forget why we work for somebody else. It's Income. Money.
Naval Ravikant in his famous "Tweet Storms" said: "Seek Wealth, Not Money or Status".
"The problem is, to win at a status game you have to put somebody else down. That’s why you should avoid status games in your life—because they make you into an angry combative person. You’re always fighting to put other people down and elevate yourself and the people you like."
"Status games are always going to exist; there’s no way around it. Realize that most of the time when you’re trying to create wealth, you’re getting attacked by someone else and they’re trying to look like a goody-two shoes. They’re trying to up their own status at your expense."
So, Focusing on "Salary" day, counting the days to every 30th of the month, remembering that my main focus is just to keep my income flow steady, and not to jeopardize it just because someone hates your progress and you want to teach them a lesson, is a good thing.
Focusing on really "why" I am doing the job (Which is earning income), keeps me professional and keeps me away from petty politics.
