Thoughts on leaving cisco

I have recently left Cisco. This post is a rant on how i feel while leaving

I worked at CCBU. A department which is filled with incompetent dev and even more incompetent managers. Not surprisingly all employee were Wipro contractors who became full time due to sheer amount of time spent.

Managers expect you to lick their ass to get promoted. Since i am non ass licker employee, i was never in his good books. While resigning my manager threatened that he will extend my notice period and gave me tasks to finish off if I "ever" wanted to leave

I feel very happy leaving such shitty place. I wish never to return here again. At my tenure my growth has been negative, and I became lazy. Now trying to get out of this lazy zone in my next company

Ps- I know there are good parts of Cisco as well. I just happened to be in the wrong part. This post is me venting out about my experiences. This is just personal opinion

Good for you to fight back, friend. What has been your next move after leaving?

Joined a startup. Best way to get out of the comfort zone

Yes, that's great!

Absolutely agree and have seen the same at Mic******. Filled with incompetent folks in the Sales and Partner org. Saw lot of great talent leave during the layoffs in Jan-March quarter. Mainly those who were bootlickers, survived. Got a great piece of advice from an old timer that - "whatever you love about this org, doesn't happen in your and my team. It all happens at Redmond, somewhere you and I will never reach because of the politics here"...

TBH, I always assumed Mic****** has better Managers, Leads and Less or No Politics compared to other companies as they hire most folks from "Premium Institutions" in India.

My manager had come from "Box selling" background and it was incredibly difficult to make her understand that Microsoft had moved on from it to become a Cloud company. She still used to harass me basically as to why we were focusing on Azure and Productivity cloud sales and not on Servers and core based licenses which was baffling. How she even got through the interview was beyond fathomable for our entire team.

Well done bro. Stand up for yourself. Go live better life, join good work places and have a mental peace. These boomers don’t have life and they create this nonsense.

what does CCBU stand for?

MagicalNarwhal

Department within cisco. Contact center business unit

WobblyLlama

I've heard that pretty much all contact center units in any firm are toxic one way or another. Someone's getting their balls kicked at some point.

there are no bad companies, just bad managers. Except Byjuys. Yeah, that's a bad company.

Can relate, I left for similar reasons too. Too monotonous and surrounded by mediocre people

Could you tell how did you approached and joined the startup?

MagicalNarwhal

Standard job changing procedure. Apply to multiple companies. Some will reply back. Interview. Get selected

Coz market is tough. Assume 10% companies will call back.

Frankly nothing surprising. Mediocre big techs are the worst place to be after service based companies. Always better to leave then get involved in office politics/bootlicking.

Is it not possible to switch BUs or teams there?

MagicalNarwhal
MagicalNarwhal

It is. I applied to internal job. But No luck. Market is bad and not many opening within or outside.
