Of course, it will be bizarre for most in Europe. People sure work long hours there as well especially in startups but it would be the owners for the most part. Employees are usually not expected to work insane hours. There is a sense of work boundaries. People do not call or message on personal contact for work. Work related communication is done via email or channels like Slack. It gives them time for oneself or with family which is very important for building and maintaining relationships.
Work also starts early by 8 or 9 AM, so people get off by evening around 5 to spend time on their interests or with family. Emergency overtime once in a while is fine and expected otherwise, the usual workday is a good and healthy way of working and living by all measures.

In some cases, you even get paid for overtime. However, companies in India 'expect' you to overtime & work on weekends. And then there's your usual 'no life outside work' colleague in your team overworking overtime to death & then others are expected to do the same.
P.S Exceptions exist

Our European counterparts are always on a holiday or about to go on a holiday because they have so many leaves and holidays. With tax rates being ~40% and salary being shit and free healthcare, education there is no sense for working hard in Europe. You just need to pray for being born in a family which already owns a house or 2 and you are done.

Itna bhi sach nhi bolna tha. The majority of people don't work willingly, they are forced.

True rant

It's totally true in most Indian setups. I worked in a global SaaS company and the work stops at 5.30 / 6Pm and we resume work at 9.30 / 10Am.
In my present company, we have 3 Whatsapp groups and 200 trillion million billion slack groups where someone is posting some shit at any given time..
I just mute my slack & work WhatsApp Groups post 7 pm
Someone who does work with Europe teams, sometimes you have to stretch because the meetings are scheduled late or you can get late replies(or free slots for call). Plus Indian managers as usual expect us to do that, because they wanna suck up to the senior management (in Europe). It doesnt happen regularly, but yeah

If some incident happened they will be the first one to blame us. One day our client were complaining that how they were logged in till 9 in the night because of us. 9pm is nothing for us

Guilty. I work 12-14 hrs a day. Mostly cuz I enjoy it. However there are groups in the company that work long hours just to brag
