From the perspective of Brand Communication, it was/is a great opportunity for Reliance to fund his education and come out looking nice.

This is classic, David vs Goliath, of they had fulfilled his request, it would have gained them publicity and goodwill worth millions. But nooooo, they had to go this way, which if the guy fought even with a decent lawyer, he could drag this case for months, surpassing the launch date.
All he has to argue, bloody domain is his property, neither hotstar nor jio ever owned it, and he is not even using it for business. Even if the court rules in favour of Reliance, they lose because of negative publicity

This. And I am surprised they are not getting this.

I don't think it is legal to own a domain that misleads to an existing company. Someone did the same before jio was officially launched in 2014-15. Thought it may seem smart, it is highly risky coz you never know what would happen if they move legally

GroovyBiscuit

It is legal, as you have not violated anyone’s trademark and there is no law stating otherwise.

SleepyQuokka

No it's legal to own May not be legal to masquerade as a commercial entity

This is Cybersquatting. Beyond a point he won't get anything. Jio and Hotastar are both registered trademarks

Reliance is the most chindi company out there. They don't even pay their employees properly! I hope a lawyer takes stand for this guy. What he did is absolutely legal. Even Musk settled with a guy who had taken the @x account name in Twitter

Something shady about Dunzo

I recall a period when several individuals from upper management were keen on initiating a lawsuit against Dunzo due to unpaid dues, and yet, all of them seemed to disappear without a trace after a while. I'm genuinely curious about what...

Dunzo not in a great position

First, they had a layoff. Some people in the leadership quit. Middle management people are quitting. They shut down majority of the dark stores. They are pivoting their business. They are out of runway.
