Switching Companies v/s Not Switching Companies

Hello all, what are your takes on switching Companies every 4-6 years (or other frequencies) v/s staying in one company for longer duration like 10-20 years?

Note: While staying at the same company, one should stay relevant and try to evolve rapidly as well. Taking on new challenges, moving to different teams/verticals will be a part of it. It won't be like staying in just one role, doing the same work every day, expecting a hike/promotion someday.

While switching, money would definitely get double or tripled, but considering an ideal/hypothetical situation where someone is making 'good enough salary' from the beginning of their career itself, and then the fact that the more we wait, the compensation would compound down the lane.

If you are in your early twenties, switch every two years.

If you are past 27-28, find a company where you can work for long term. Late 20s are when you have to gather your cajones to settle down.

My rule of thumb is: three years of hard work. If no promotion, or decent appraisal is in sight, I’ll bounce to a better Paycheck elsewhere.
