Struggling with corporate politics!

I recently joined a European company in the marketing department, and my experience has been incredibly frustrating. I’ve been grappling with the internal politics within the company. It’s evident that the manager favours one particular person in a 35-member team. Whatever this person does is acceptable, while the rest of us are left to suffer. The situation is so dire that I’m currently in India and they’re asking me to relocate to Europe, considering the ongoing war. Considering that all flights are technically passing through Dubai or other non-European destinations, the costs are exorbitant. Despite these challenges, they insist on my presence there.

There are a few specific issues that have been particularly problematic:

  1. Politics: The company is rife with political favouritism. The manager seems to have a personal vendetta against Asians, possibly because we’re allegedly taking away their jobs. This is particularly concerning given that the company was founded by Indians for Europeans. In the last six months, they’ve fired three Indians and two Pakistanis solely because of this bias. They consistently favour individuals of their own race and ethnicity, leaving no room for trust or collaboration with others.

  2. Racism: There’s a palpable sense of racism within the company. The manager seems to harbour resentment towards Asians, possibly due to the perception that we’re displacing their jobs. This has led to a hostile work environment, and I’m struggling to cope with the constant negativity and discrimination.

The company’s leadership is also poor. The manager throws people under the bus whenever the management comes to their door, leaving me feeling powerless and undervalued. I’m desperate to find a better job back in India because this experience is mentally exhausting and unsustainable. If you’ve had a similar experience or are considering working in Europe, please be aware of these issues and take precautions to protect yourself.
