Promotion- Boon or Bane?

I didn't get promoted nor huge bump in pay. Was asked to work like I'm already in next level so that they can consider me for promotion. Got more work, higher stakes and responsibilities, more stretching after hours.

Now tell me, can it get worse in the name of promotion.!!

Only if its a promotion for name sake with minimal hike
