[Poll] Do you also have people at work who have zero value add at work and exist solely because they have the right labels?
I mean I get it that people in charge want to de-risk their optics by hiring people with the right pedigree but c’mon, atleast make sure that they have a background in hard skills. Because it takes less than a day to learn the same words as them sans the piece of paper they seem to wave around.

Management tip :
Some of these people are kept around so that they can be fired at the right time, e.g. in case the CEO decides to layoff 10-20%, the manager can fire these extra resources without having a significant impact in the team’s output.

There is a whole department called HR.

All In Pod destroyed HR as a function lol.

Fortunately/unfortunately true about the optics bit, specially in large orgs.
You see folks with “labels” select the ones with “labels” to be pitched to investors/SHs/new talent/senior mgmt. Flip side, when things go downhill mgmt has it lot more easy saying they hired all good wood out there but somehow things didnt work out instead of convincing that they hired w/o pedigree bias, with relevant exp etc.

This is actually quite true.

My Manager.
