Our client may not have found PMF and now pushing for sales

I consult with a company (a year old startup) for their sales efforts. Over the course of efforts, we realised that the product we are trying to sell is not even market fit. Not sure how much user research went into this before launching

How to put this gently to the client who expects sales from us?
