[OPINION] MBAs are a dying breed who deserve it.
mba’s are the middlemen of the mind, bullshit architects of ppt decks that dump the actual work onto someone else. their entire “skillset” is built on synthesizing what other people create and presenting it like they did something.
in any market that isn’t fucked, this is pure deadweight.
real work: building, coding, designing, selling, produces tangible results.
mba’s? they specialize in abstraction, which is just a fancy way of saying they’re perfectly set up to get replaced by ai. why pay six figures for someone to regurgitate shit when a bot can do it faster and cheaper?
zirp fucked everything by pumping out this glut of managerial types. cheap money propped up bloated orgs full of people who talk big but don’t do shit.
now that efficiency is cool again, these roles are getting axed left and right.
hiring an mba right now feels like buying a fax machine when everyone’s walking around with smartphones.

Maybe the fault lies in the person. MBA still teaches about strategy, brand management and core finance. If you don't have mba grads who is going to suggest facebook to buy instagram. Maybe as a product manager or a developer would have said I will build my own instagram and then fucked the strategy of the company

MBA is a deadweight education. Its only for brand image. It teaches no specialized skill that is usefull to a company.

It teaches no specialized skill that is useful to the economy

I dont understand bashing MBAs, corporate america and india were built by MBAs who helped these mismanaged dalla operated companies.

Kinda true but not wholly. MBAs were good when businesses were inefficient and controlled by people with capital but no talent. New gen companies dont need MBAs because only smart people can win at businesses.

Damn this has got to hurt. Those student loans. The shame. Went to HBS now jobless.
This might be due to the business cycle but I think MBA has jumped the shark. We’ve already seen the last big company being founded. Companies from 2025 onwards will be tiny. Very little need for ‘management’.
The old suit and tie order is rapidly changing.

In today’s world you can find data to whatever your bias is, may be MBA is not relevant but real skill is not just coding or any hard skills but judgements and decisions. You are extremely valuable if you know how to solve unstructured problem, how to define a problem and how to identify which problems to solve. MBA helps somewhat is decision making through mental frameworks, some MBA folks force fit these frameworks everywhere and they look like someone with half baked knowledge and these are in majority.

@FormerFounder : Good rant, now go back and sip your bland cappucino , put on that unwashed hoodie and write code to save 2 secs of computing power of an automated batch job that runs twice a day.

From my experience, many MBA graduates lack a practical understanding of how businesses operate in the real world. They often assume that analyzing data and creating presentations alone can drive business growth. However, in practice, the dynamics are far more complex and require hands-on experience, adaptability, and a deep understanding of operational realities.
The whole point of the MBA is not anything else except networking. That's the sole point to pursue so as to get an internship or job during/ after the degree.
The specialization and focus on strategic thinking is just an added bonus but not the core.
💯, true for CS too. But for MBA its the only gain for so much 💵

I thought PMs also don't have any real skills. Just like MBAs, they are simply middle men without any real skill. Taking credit for what Engg, Sales and Design does. But later I realized, moving the needle is what good PMs do. They try and get an alignment and move things. Same with consultants, large organizations are very crappy when it comes to transformation or change. Everyone says consultants are useless but they keep bringing them (with 4x-5x FTE pay) either to take the fall or give them the bitter truth.
Saying MBAs are useless is like saying PMs and techies are useless in FMCGs and conglomerates. They can't do shit. Most techies can't even negotiate or present things properly (I'm one of them). That's where MBAs shine.
