I think a lot of managers in India have this fantasy of making you work on weekends or on leaves and don't even ask of their fragile ego which gets hurt when you don't or set boundaries. That's where things start to go down for you.

Hilarious but sad reality at the same time.

Europeans definitely have swag due to their labour laws.
I personally have taken multiple 2+ weeks leaves for marriage and vacations in the past 10 years without any issues. Depends on the team, work, manager, culture.

Population is the main reason.
