Misled, threatened—project release before my wedding

I’ve been at IBM 1.2 yrs, was a top performer with zero leaves last year. Moved to the Mercedes project after being promised a hybrid setup (2‑hr commute) and a new local office. After joining: full 5‑day onsite, no hybrid, no new office. All this was a false information which was provided to me so that I can join the Mercedes account.

I asked for 1 week WFH before my 2‑week wedding leave—it was denied. With all the false information and not approving for work from home Stressed, I asked for release and emailed I’d return the laptop. No reply; instead I got an aggressive call threatening HR escalation. Now they’re fixated on the laptop, ignoring the broken promises.

I’m having panic attacks and sleepless nights days before my wedding, and just learned my last day is April 21.

Did I deserve this trauma?

Recently, I was moved to the Mercedes-Benz project. Before joining, I was promised a hybrid setup due to my 2-hour commute and told a new office near my location would open soon. Based on that, I joined. But after onboarding, everything changed — it became 5-day office, no hybrid, and the new office plan was scrapped. I felt completely misled.

I requested 1 week of WFH (pre-approved and planned before my 2-week wedding leave), but it was denied. Out of stress, I asked for a release and informed via email that I’d return the laptop — I got no reply. Instead, I received a threatening call saying it would be escalated to HR.

Now the focus has shifted to “Why did I return the laptop?” while the real issue — the false promises — is being ignored. I was yelled at, treated rudely, and made to feel like I had done something wrong.

This has caused panic attacks, sleepless nights, and constant fear — right before my wedding. And now, I’ve received an email saying my project end date is April 21 — so I’m being released anyway.

Thankfully, my people manager has been supportive. But the emotional damage is done.

All I ask is — did I really deserve this trauma? If they had just stuck to what they said, none of this would’ve happened.

Sounds like a chatgpt write up. The double hyphen is a classic sign.

Didn’t understand. You yourself asked for release and told that you will return the laptop right? And now they are doing exactly that, isn’t it? Or are they firing, rather than releasing from project?

Bro.. get all senior over an email.. and write everything you face.. with some evidence. Dont worry for job.. worry for your health and family first. If you are skilled.. you will get the opportunity. But first fuck their ass.

Three real facts of corporations are out, bag times does the true culture of a company.
Don't get threatened. While you may not be accountable for their promises because they might have made you sign some joining letter with all clauses that location, timing, etc might changes anytime.

However, going forward just be vigilant. Document add much as possible over email to safeguard your interest.

Look into what you had signed at joining and use it if there is clause.

If I’m not wrong, IBM allows unlimited sick leaves. Just take sick leaves and chill.

At least you are very lucky, soon going to get married, congratulations 🎉, otherwise the corporate sector doesn't want Indians to get married and devote their time to their families, since they feel it impacts ur devotion towards their work, they just want u to work, pay tax and the loop goes on, ask other folks here who don't have time to get married
