“Luxurious” salary in India

Content: In Tier-1 cities like Mumbai or Bangalore, ₹1L/month barely feels luxurious. Meanwhile, ₹30K/month can sustain a comfortable life in smaller towns. Here’s the breakdown I’ve noticed:

  • Villages: ₹25K-40K/month for a decent lifestyle.
  • Towns: ₹50K-70K/month is comfortable.
  • Metro Cities: ₹1L/month if you own a house; ₹1.5L/month if you don’t (rent + savings). All of this is if you're single and don't have to support a family.

40K/month m you can have your lavish Bangalore life too. You need to divert your expenses judiciously.

You are comparing decent village lifestyle at 25K to ultra luxurious Bangalore life at 1L. Both are not comparable at all.

village and town life has been glamourized in social media. The ground reality is much different. Salaried people assume that earning money thru a business is easy. for a first gen entrepreneur, setting up a sustainable business is super difficult. success in business is not the norm, failure is norm. to earn 25-40K/month in a village would make a person in the top 5% of the population. only government employees, doctors, people with a decent land holdings will make this kind of money. in some cases that would make you top 1%.

Setting up a sustainable business from scratch is a task that is unachievable unless one has decent contacts and substantial backup money. Only Doctors have the flexibility to move and settle down anywhere in India. The only roadblock for them is language.

Village /Town life is not glamourous, if it was -every moderately rich man would have gone by now.
