Looks like Amazon is shutting down food delivery business

Any insights on why did they do it? What are they going to do with the staff currently working on it?

Almost thought you meant Amazon Fresh. But it’s actually just a pilot thing they did in Bengaluru against Zomato & Swiggy. Quite expected to curb the loss. Not sure how long Swiggy keeps hanging

The US HQ reason says that they r cutting down on all burns so that stocks appreciate. All employees are concerned of stock price.

Also, i feel that stock has become a money printing tool for company.

I have been using Amazon Food for a year now, they were available in selected pincodes and probably the thesis was the maximise utilisation of their delivery fleet and optimize incomes of the partners as well in some way.

Lot of deep discounting, pretty sure they were losing money on most of the orders. Maybe the unit economics didn't make sense so they've wrapped it. It was a pilot.
