Is there any polite way to ask your coworkers’ salary?

I’m decently pally with my coworkers but there’s no way I’m pally (or rude) enough to ask them their salary but I’m really curious to know bcz my company is not on glassdoor and I have no way of knowing if I’m being paid at par or generally what the pay scale for different roles looks like. What can I possibly do?

As someone who has access to company payroll data, i used to constantly compare myself with others. Thing is you will never walk away happy. If you earn more, you get cocky and feel you are "better" than others. If you earn less, you will feel sad and jealous. I still have access to this data, but i don't look at it..... Instead i always assume that i am paid 20% less than what I should, and i keep working towards it, either by performing well or looking for a better opportunity. Just my 2 cents ..

Well said. Comparison in this particular matter is never productive.

Start talking trash about public infra and how we pay tax and dont get anything. Then Ask him how much tax he has paid and stay on course for a bit. Then back calculate and feel happy/sad.

If you are looking to know if you are paid according to market standards, then I suggest you check across companies on glass door and see where you function
