Is the job market really that bad?

I have been applying to companies here and there but I am not getting any interview calls back. I have tried referrals. Another strange thing is recruiters after reaching out on Linkedin donot reply back after replying with "I am interest in this opportunity blah blah.., here's my resume". I have currently 8 years of experience and I really need to move out of current company. I am not sure whats happening.
