Is it good to shift to tier 3-4 city in case of remote job?

Hi

I got a remote job and planning to shift to tier 4 city. Major reason is to be with family and have slow pace life. The small town has good enough infrastructure including good internet and road connectivity.

Do you think it would be a good idea in short term or long term? I am planning to continue remote job only until the day comes where i wont be able to find remote job.

Curious, you are in which role? What is your thoughts about once you reach up to the management level the option of getting such decreases as very few companies allow remote for managers unless its complete remote company?

I had been doing this from last 4 years and being in my villege (15k population), it was all due to certain personal responsibilities even before covid, but this have turned into a blessing and was able to racked upto $150K from last 2 years being on remote/contracts jobs). Obviously it was all risk, though this decision was all worth of it and best of till date.

Been doing that since the beginning of Covid. Luckily my company still offers remote job option. I discovered my love for surfing. Now I live in tier 4 surf towns in India, staying in each town for 4-6 months, and am loving it.

Benefits:

  1. Dedicating time, previously used for getting ready and commuting to office, for personal activities.
  2. Saving money as most of these places have very low cost of living.
  3. Physically fit.
  4. Found a partner while on the road and got hitched. We share interests and are both in tech industry.
  5. Adopted 3 pets and spend a lot of quality time with them.

Some pointers to think on: Since It is work place that engages you in random conversations and you learn by observing other people, bonding with them etc. Do you think going perm remote would affect your overall growth and happiness in that way? Also, Do you think going remote Might affect your mental well being since you're mostly confined to your room for most of the day?

True, will be missing office space though i have been working remotely for last 3 month so no impact in term of the mental wellness but just curious about if there will be any major downside to go remote from small city

I have been working remote since my job started last year. It has been 1 year and I know I have missed some things. I have a girlfriend which I'd like to live with. But once you go remote from home it's hard to move back and spend 20k-25k per month. But as these are my initial days I want to enjoy a bit of life as well which I'm not doing in my tier 3/4 city. I meet nobody, talk to just my parents as I don't find anyone similar to me here. Don't feel like leaving the house etc etc.

See its depends how you see education, i have seen someone from small city earning higher salary even after completing study from there and people of tier 1 struggling to find the job

What about power and broadband??

BouncyDonut

Broadband is good enough. Power is better then some of the tier 2 cities and can easily get powerbackup

Only if you have a good social circle there. It takes a toll on mental health if you don't have a friend your age to hang out with. Otherwise it's a win win situation.

Exactly. I don't have any social circle and just stay in my room most of the time. Thinking about moving to delhi now.
