Is India's fitness culture becoming superficial?
I been deeply involved in the fitness industry here for years and India's fitness culture is becoming too shallow. I've seen it firsthand. People are more focused on looking good for Instagram rather than actually being healthy. It's all about those six-pack abs and toned bodies, but there's little emphasis on real fitness or overall well-being.
I've had clients come to me with unrealistic expectations, wanting to look like their favorite Bollywood stars in just a few weeks. They don't understand that those celebs have personal trainers, nutritionists, and sometimes even resort to extreme measures to look the way they do. It's not sustainable or healthy for the average person.
The rise of social media influencers has also contributed to this superficiality. Many of them promote quick-fix diets and supplements without any scientific backing. People follow these trends blindly, thinking they'll get instant results. But fitness is a long-term commitment, not a quick fix.
I've also noticed that there's a lack of understanding about the importance of mental health in fitness. People think that just because they look good on the outside, they're healthy. But true fitness is a balance of physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Unfortunately, this holistic approach is often overlooked.
In my experience, the focus should be on building a sustainable lifestyle that includes regular exercise, a balanced diet, and mental wellness. But the current trend is more about showing off than actually being fit. It's frustrating to see people prioritizing appearance over health.
So, in my opinion, yes, the fitness culture here is becoming superficial. It's more about looking good than feeling good, and that's a real problem.

It was superficial a decade ago. Now it's just pure crazy.

How?

That dude looks to be on Steroids for sure.

That girl looks like she’s on Botox

It all depends on who is influencing the majority of fitness enthusiasts really. There were times where random fitness influencers used to teach BS, but with time and internet, I see good influencers in the fitness industry trying to get it on road.
We have few who went off road for fame and money, like Tarun gill, a few who wanted to deliberately make a scene and go viral, like this guy above, a few who shared fake tips and stupid shortcuts that never worked.
The ratio of good to bad influencers is still way off the margin, but I do see the changes happening slowly. Example, health by kilo , JC, Aman Duggal,Jeet sala all share positive fitness knowledge rather than beating around the old myth bush. They also preach healthy ways of building one's fitness level , good nutrition rather than the shortcuts or unethical ways of practicing.
India is changing, it is not there yet, but it surely will. May be in next 3 to 4 years.

All the fat people flocking to respond here like someone's handing out free cheeseburgers 😂
It's not that hard to not be fat - Stop stuffing your face every chance you get. Take a walk every now and then, and use the stairs. Maybe you'll be pretty too someday

Those are real person or AI images ?

Arvind mera sathi is peak fitness.

Thanks to the social media

When a generation becomes obsessed with external transformations, we risk losing inner strength. Meanwhile, so-called influencers grow wealthy from this obsession. In a world where everyone chases instant results, the value of patience in building lifelong health is fading. Despite apps telling us what to do and eat, and wearables tracking everything, we still struggle to find peace of mind.🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️ just get going 🤫
