How to cope with ghosting

Gave all the rounds in a company. Rounds went really well. HR was really responsibe untill the last round that was day before yesterday, now called him today, didn't pick up and left a msg that he'll call back. Now I'm getting a feeling that they're going to ghost. What more can we do? Prepared well, interviews went well? What else?

Ghosting after interviews feels awful. You did everything right, crushed the rounds, and now… silence. It’s frustrating. Here are my two cents:

  1. Give It a Few More Days HR folks juggle a lot, so it’s possible they’re just caught up. Wait 2-3 more days before making assumptions.

  2. Send a Polite Follow-Up (With a Feedback Angle) If you haven’t heard back after a few days, shoot a short and confident follow-up:

Hi [HR’s Name], I hope you’re doing well. I wanted to follow up on my interview process and check if there are any updates. I really appreciate the time everyone took to meet with me, and I’d love to hear about the next steps when you have a chance. Also, if there’s any feedback you can share on my interview performance, I’d truly appreciate it—it helps me grow and improve. Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks!

Please tweak this to sound 'more you'.

  1. Keep It Moving Don’t let one company dictate your confidence. Keep applying, networking and exploring other opportunities. Your skills and preparation are valuable and if they don’t see it, someone else will.

  2. Reframe It: Their Loss, Not Yours If they ghost, it’s a red flag on their end-not yours if you did everything you can, including reflecting on what you could do differently the next time. A company that lacks basic courtesy in hiring won’t magically become great at communication once you’re working there. You dodged a bullet.

  3. Stay Ready for What’s Next This job isn’t the only one out there. Stay in control by keeping the momentum going. If they do call back and offer no feedback, great! If not, their silence after a considerable amount of time is your answer and a sign to move on to bigger and better things.

Bottom line? You did your part. Now, let them prove if they’re worth your time. If not, they just gave you your beginning for the right opportunity. 💪

Sad ! Same has happened with me too. Few HRs ruin the experience and comsume so much energy. May I know for which company ?

It's a small but good company. Asked ex employees and everyone had a positive response. I don't know if I'm just unlucky or what's happening.

Name company before asking advice

Will come back and mention name once I'm sure they ghosted. People are saying it has been 2 days only.

That's ok but I'm saying to get genuine answers we need to know the company else how to judge the behaviour. If it's google then yes they are known to take weeks to get back as they very carefully benchmark the ctc and given the forecasting of their stock price they give rsu etc. if it's a WITCH company then it's a sure ghost. Etc. to get informed answer we need informed details in the question.

Thats were GV comes to help. We can come here and call them Rangoli idiots.

Seriously, Nothing can be done. Hiring is their prerogative. Likewise, joining is ours. If we ghost them on the joining date, there is nothing that they can do. Layoff is their call, resignation is ours.

Right. Feels really bad to be on the losing side 😞

There are couple of criteria during selection. Top 2 are talent and luck. First one has gone well and for 2nd one which is luck you just have to wait. So try to understand company perspective. Do you feel you would be the only person whom they are interviewing for this position? So out of all how have given good interview and who fits best into thier budget would be rolled out the offer.

Gave 6 rounds in this famous video conferencing app company. Only to be ghosted without any closure.
It sucks dude. Send a follow up mail asking about your candidature. Don't keep your hopes on it though.

And most importantly take a short break, recalibrate yourself and start giving interviews again. Good luck 🤞

Never do this. Who knows. If not now, after few years you can land there

Same happened to me. Though my last round wasn't good still I had wanted the feedback and the HR just ghosted. This month is my last month at the current company with no offer in hand. But controlling what I can control and letting go of what I can't.

Been there. Detachment is the key. Just keep giving interviews left right and center. Stop keeping hope.

Interviewed at 7 companies, got one offer.

Will do the same . Thanks

This is the best solution that worked for me as well

Happens. I have been ghosted after saying they're going to give me an offer.

Need not be your fault, they could've found someone else or already them finalized and were waiting for them to accept offer. You can't really dig deep to find out why they ghosted you.

At most you can ask for feedback, Some give some don't. Again not in our hands.

Just accept it happened and be more prepared for next interview.

Right. Will try to keep a level mind and try not to think about this. Thanks
