Tried consuming protein to recover from the workout sessions but feel quite sore

Make sure you've got your basics right: protein (and enough carbs)+ sleep + water.

Stretching helps dessipate lactic acid.

If you're new to the gym give it a few weeks as your body gets used to weight training.

If none of the above works, you might be lifting too much.
