Help me rate my manager
So I have a work experience of 1.5 yrs. This manager has been with me for around 9 months now.
Despite being a technical manager, he doesn't code, doesn't give technical insights or feedback, no code reviews and always spills over the little jira stories he is assigned. BUT, he doesn't micromanage and doesn't force to come to the office, approves all little requested allowances and in general a chill person.
I am confused with respect to my career growth, if I am under the right influence and is this a normal industry standard?
Your manager sounds like a "nice" manager but is also possibly an "average" manager if he doesn't share technical insights (atleast critical ones). We need to appreciate these nice managers as they are not that common.
If you are ambitious, being with an average manager might slow you down. If you are comfortable with your pace of growth, being with such a nice manager is an awesome experience.
If he’s a chill manager, he’ll let you grow and cross collaborate with other teams and folks who can help you grow technical skills. Then it won’t really matter what his technical skills are like.
Looks like a good manager , these are not so common
