Have lost ambition

I have been working for almost 2 decades and last 2-3 yrs have lost ambition. I used to take pride in my work but everyday feels like dread. I have absolutely no ideas why I work apart from family responsibilities. Infact even life outside work feels like too much. I do not know reason for existence. Has anyone felt like that how did you tackle it?

There is no point of existence. No one have a Devine purpose. Very few people in a century makes a difference, normal people like us are here to play extras. Work somewhere, mary someone, have some kids and die. This is what most people do, infact this is why we exist in the first place, to continue the species.

We all are unique, we all have unique things like fingerprint, face, and many small details. But most of our hardware and software is same across all humans (even banana share a lot of DNA with us whats banana's point of existence).

So we aren't special.

Stop taking yourself seriously. You are doing what this system by design want us to do. Try to find things that you might enjoy.
Dopamine hits from work success might have reduced but you can always get that hit with other things.

Its all just chemical imbalance in our brain sir.

Bro, i don't know why, but your thinking slights with mine on another level. I can say for sure that i would've said the same thing with 80% same context. Great thinking. Its also a coincidence that u r in Accenture, cuz I was in Accenture for 5 years before switching.

Right now fhe life is moving at a sedatory pace. You are settled and there is nothing challenging as of now. Find something that makes you feel thrilled, it can be anything, leaning French, or cook or learn a bicycle again. Something that breaks the fixed pattern and make you look forward to another day.

This hits really deep - after 20 years, suddenly everything feels pointless and you’re just going through motions. So many of our community members describe this exact feeling.

What you’re experiencing has a name - it’s called “existential burnout.” Your brain literally gets exhausted from years of the same patterns and starts questioning everything. It’s not weakness, it’s actually your mind saying “we need something different.”

Quick reality check: Press Pause on the guilt about feeling this way. You’re not broken, you’re human.

One thing that works for our clients - start stupidly small. Don’t try to find your “purpose” tomorrow. Just pick one tiny thing that used to give you even 2% joy and do it for 5 minutes. Could be listening to that one song, making good chai, whatever.

Also, this “dread” feeling? It’s often your nervous system stuck in survival mode. Sometimes we need to address the stress first before we can even think about meaning and purpose.

We talk about this stuff daily in our WhatsApp community “Press Pause” - people dealing with exactly this mid-career existential crisis: https://chat.whatsapp.com/F6iWzeV56B64ltNhMafEkq

You’re not alone in this, and it does get better.
