I told her the truth. 90% of the time this isn’t a negotiation tactic, rather they’re trying to figure out upward mobility for their family, kids etc.
it’s the same as if you went and asked a senior their salary at work.

It can backfire dude, i think it's the opposite, 90% of the time its negotiation tactic, specially in small cities maid have no clue how much people in IT earns, forget about maid, even some of my well educated relatives don't believe that you can earn more than 1.5lakhs by doing some job, they've just never seen IT world yet.
Its possible that the maid is just trying to know your salary just for upward mobility for their kids, but after knowing the actual salary, she might get mad and think that she is highly underpaid and demands for a raise as she knows we are highly dependent on them would easily pay more.

I get where you're coming from, but look at it from her perspective. Even if she wants it from a negotiation pov, what's wrong with that? This person has no idea about the salaries in the real world, she's not going to use Grapevine and see salary cards. How is she going to know how much people in this world earn?

It's similar to employees asking the HR for salary range so they can negotiate better 😂😂😂

Exactly man!
I live in nashik and she thinks 50k/month is a really really good salary for any very well educated person, If somehow she knows my real salary, she would go mad and would probably ask more in the next few months for her work.

And here I am... With not even 50k pm salary 🥲

So what is your salary?

Yes. I just say the same thing
