Food supplement for parents

Folks, I am trying to get a food supplement for my mom who is ageing and becoming sloppier with each day. She is 62 and is going through daily sorrow as my father passed away last year. She is devastated and still continues to be extremely depressed/ad for last 1 year almost.

To take care of her internal health, I was thinking of getting into the regular habit of her having Amway Nutrilite or Ensure etc type of food supplements. But upon research, found out Nutrilite is not being praised as much as I thought it would be.

So any suggestion about the product I should be using instead?

Really nice of you to actively work on this I would highly recommend this:

  • First, try to get a blood check up done. That'll make it clear what is deficient and help you fix that
  • However, even without it. I suggest you start her on Vitamin D 5000 iu daily and B12. Often, depression stems from these being deficient, and I've visibly seen change in people
  • But more than supplements - see how you can push her towards going for walks daily, having some daylight exposure in the morning. Also, if she can get into some hobby/some activity/some exercise class (like Yoga) which becomes a distraction

I know parents are usually resistant to change, but all the best and hope she feels better very soon!

Wholesome! Thanks for this!

  1. That's in progress. I am trying to decide on the lab now
  2. This is enlightening! Are you sure that no doctor's reco is needed for Vit D and B12?
  3. Getting her out on sun and physical activities are must I understand. Hobbies...no. I have tried multiple times but she is not motivated enough for anything new anymore. But I am still thinking of getting her admissioned in gym with me from June and some frequent travels here and there every now and then.

Thanks for the wishes and helpful information :)

Vitamin B12 she can do 1 course. Vitamin D take only 1 in a week. Total 4 tab only.

She had 2 box of this, after that she started gaining weight. Apart from this try having tofu or egg as well.

Please consult a doctor before taking any supplements. Also make sure your mom eats healthy and nutritious food maximum times.

I would suggest you do blood tests and then consult a gyno or women doctor for supplements

Correct. Blood test is first priority now and maybe will consult a doctor to finalise upon a health food supplement. Thanks for the suggestion!

Get her protein and start her on gym. Also spend as much time as possible with her , give her enough money so she won't ever feel short + take frequent family trips

Yes this! Gym starts from June for her, I have decided. She doesn't want to go but I'll force her somehow. Also, food habit and all are gonna be changed as well from June for both of us.

Taking frequent family trips - I have started this already but gonna increase now. Maybe couple of small impromptu trips every month from now on.

Great suggestions! Thanks!

I am posting here looking for some suggestions. My mom is about 63 years of age, has worked most of her life and then travelled. But lately after retiring and covid her morale and energy has come down drastically. I was talking to her to...
