Do I open up about this at work?

I’ve recently been diagnosed with severe depression and have started medication. It’s been impacting me more than I realized, especially at work. Doctor has advised to take break from work for couple of weeks, but that's not possible.

I’ve received some subtle feedback about needing to improve my output.

Now I’m stuck wondering — should I be upfront with my manager about what’s going on, or just stay quiet and let the meds (hopefully) do their thing while I work on getting better?

Not sure what the right move is, but would appreciate some perspective.

No need to tell. If you want, you can give some random excuse about headache, fever etc, but not the real cause. Don’t treat manager as your friend, no matter how friendly he/she looks.

No, this can be used against you especially during appraisal. You are handing them a solid reason to never promote you.

Fuck no. They ain't your pals. You can lie like someone in your family has health issues, but not about your depression.
