Before turning on your camera, tell them “Looks like some glitch at my end (or with Zoom/Teams) I can’t see you either”😉

Why do you want to see the interviewer

If he wants to see you even if you are uncomfy, you can see him too. If he declines, you get a fairly good picture of what the culture is going to be over there- looking down on employees.

If an interviewer pulled this stunt with me, I’d pull the ejection seat right after I give him a piece of my mind.

Interviews happen with cameras being off, discussions happen with cameras being on

During my Uber interview, I felt that my interviewer wasn’t interested in taking the interview.

When you turn on camera you make an impression that you’re as invested as the candidate, helps in building a rapport.

Saw this on Reddit and resonated with me - “I had this. I was asked to put my camera on but before I did I asked if they would be doing the same, I was told no, so I told them I wasnt interested in working for the company, wished them luck and left closed the teams meeting. They emailed me 10 minutes later and said they could put the camera on. I told them too little too late, I'm too qualified to have to demand to be treated like a human and want nothing to do with a company that acts in this way.”

Even if this story was false these words are helpful for others 😅

IMO, it says about the culture alot. Interviewers focusing more on discussions rather than interrogation and with a smile is a welcoming gesture.

Not rude to ask at all. This should be equal
