Appraisals are meaning less. The ones critical to projext get the highest hike.
There is a nonsensical rule that of having mandatory PIP or lower end ranking in the team. So your individual performance doesn't matter. Critical issues at that time and offfice politics will decide everyrhing

I've seen cases where people weren't even aware about why they were put on PIP at the first place
