๐ The Harsh & Drastic Impact of Social Media on Youth โ A Wake-up Call from Nepalโs Experience
In just a decade, social media applications have gone from being โoptional toolsโ to becoming an inseparable part of our daily lives. While they bring convenience, connectivity, and opportunities, we must pause and reflect on their unintended consequences, especially on our youth. Take Nepal as an example โ a nation where once social interaction was deeply rooted in people, now faces challenges of excessive digital consumption. Itโs as if small children, once taught moderation in sweets, are now exposed to unlimited access without boundaries. ๐ฑ These apps โ mostly originating from one republic โ are designed to maximize engagement, often ignoring the fine balance between utility and addiction. Recent social media polls and public confessions reveal alarming trends: ๐ Sharemarket sluggishness over the past year ๐ ๐ Gold prices skyrocketing ๐ ๐ Unprecedented geopolitical tensions ๐ ๐ Inflation reaching concerning levels ๐ According to popular media discourse, a single individual is often blamed for economic woes globally, yet paradoxically, that same individual and close associates seem to amass considerable wealth during these turbulent times. ๐ค Regardless of political stance, it is important to recognize that social media is not inherently bad. Like any tool, it depends on how we use it. However, awareness is key. Let us encourage mindful consumption, critical thinking, and a culture of moderation โ especially among the younger generation. โณ Approx. 3 more years of critical global shifts lie ahead. It is our collective responsibility โ as professionals, educators, and parents โ to help navigate this path wisely. #DigitalAwareness #SocialMediaImpact #YouthResponsibility #Nepal #EconomicTrends #MindfulUse #LinkedInInsights
Perception's paradox: Danger or Delusion
We evolved to live in small tribes and now live outside of our natural habitat, in an advanced civilization. One effect of this mismatch is that there are a bunch of things that feel dangerous to us that aren't actually dangerous, leading us to be way too risk averse. Like: - Asking someone out on a date - Trying something new even though you'll suck at it at first - Quitting your job to start a company or try a career in the arts - Putting your real voice out there on controversial topics For primates living in a small tribe, rejection, embarrassment, failure, and criticism posed actual material dangers. These things are not dangerous today, but our software hasn't been updated. So we miss out on living our best life, hiding in the 1-4 zone of the danger scale. In a world of overly risk averse people, the epiphany that the 4-7 zone is actually a safe place to play is a superpower.
Hype is the cause, happiness is the effect. Is life all about โhypeโ?
A little bit off topic but just a thought to ponder! - The hype you give to your work to fetch more salary from others - The hype you give while writing your appraisal review - The hype you give to your skillsets in your resume - The hype you give to your favorite cricketer when he walks into the field - The hype you give to your favorite film stars when there is an entry scene - The hype you wish to create by posting a WhatsApp status or an Instagram post - The hype women give to their wedding wearing gold jewelry & costumes - The hype you generate to elevate your standard of living through indulging in luxury - The hype you give to your partner in maintaining a romantic relationship. - The hype you create during birthdays & anniversaries - The hype you expect in social media of a photo that youโve posted Hype has become a need in this world. Hype is not wrong. But people refuse to accept their efforts put in to hype something. Hype is underrated. Call it a paradox. Some people might qualify this post as LinkedInworthy. The same people want to stay relevant in this app by behaving as trolls. Creativity has no bounds. Your entitlement to comment anything here is same as my entitlement to post anything.
