[Thread] Folks in high-paying but high-stress jobs: what do you spend money on when you have zero free time?

I’ll go first, paying for mindless conveniences. Like getting an Uber Premier every day or ordering a 1k dinner just to save ten minutes. Now, I make around 45 LPA at my org, but the excitement of earning is lost. Just like my weekends. I guess I realised the irony today. Woke up late this Sunday and ordered an expensive espresso machine, which I know I won’t even use. Then, I checked my bank balance. Saw my savings sitting there and instantly felt stupid for trading my twenties for a number. Now the time is gone and the energy has too. But still, it feels good knowing my parents don’t have to worry about medical bills, and that’s what truly matters.

The contrast between our offices and our cities is absolutely depressing

Inside my company’s building, we have European espresso machines, ergonomic chairs, temperature-controlled floors, and global safety standards. For 9 hours a day, it feels like a developed country. The moment i step outside? Reality hits. I'm literally wading through knee-deep water and dodging some idiot in a black Thar driving on the wrong side of the road. Then I go back to my 50k/month rented flat where the power trips twice a day and the landlord acts like he's doing me a massive favor. We are living first-world corporate lives inside third-world city infrastructure, and paying an absolute premium for it. What is the point of grinding for a 30+ LPA package if we still have to live like this? Make it make sense.

Stop buying stupid shit on EMI just because you got a job

Rant. i was a chappri intern once and destroyed my own finances. Every Tier 1 graduate working at our lean fintech startup gets their first paycheck and immediately finances a Rs 1,50,000 iPhone to take mirror selfies, which virgin btech 2nd year students cant help but drool at. i did the exact same dumb shit. I get it bro/sis, you mugged up 800 LC mediums and the founder picked you up because you solved a system design question. No, that doesnt mean you enroll in a 24 month No Cost EMI for a ridiculous Rs 80,000 espresso machine just because you moved to Bangalore. That was my absolute dumbest purchase when i got my first real salary. Due to linkedin gyaanis Twitter is full of 2nd year dimwits who think swe is the only path to liberation and their bhaiyya didi will be their guiding angel. They won't. They'll turn out just like your average 3.5lpa mass recruiter employee drowning in debt. The only way to survive is figure shit out yourself and not fall for the lending products we literally build at work. Its that simple. Im from a shit tier 3 college. I finally paid off that stupid coffee machine. What EMI bro? Deleted shopping apps for good until i get my sanity back.
