The most passive-aggressive comment I have successfully pulled off at work 😛

I have seen a lot of questions here about surviving intense tech culture without getting PIPed. I initially thought I could just keep my head down, but then I decided against it. Context is: I work in an org where most around me are making a lot of money, and typically everyone's a senior dev by 26/27. That's what I have seen. Last Friday during a brutal code review, one of these ultra competitive peers blocked my diff over a frivolous style issue. These folks work 12+ hours a day consistently for 5 days a week. They will debate anything, no matter how frivolous it is. Pure TYPE A folks. They obsess over leadership principles. Instead of arguing, I dropped a comment saying I appreciate how they dive deep into formatting instead of system architecture, but maybe we should bias for action and merge. Even at the peak of oncall burnout, these fuckers will try to alpha you. They truly love going deep into a topic and coming out with the crux of it (or so they may think). Now I know one thing. These are very obvious things. Everybody knows if you push back like this, you probably would trigger their ego. But my takeaway is to do it. It's super difficult. But at my age, I have no option but to not try to play nice, now that I have seen how its done.

Layoffs trends in India

If we look at layoff trends in India, then late stage IPO headed startups are doing it to boost profitability, or mid to early stage ones where they're trying to fit into a viable biz model. some mid sized MNCs also did layoffs where they have seen hit to their books.. all in all, crux was similar - to boost efficiency and eliminate redundancy. Then comes the companies with their support teams in india or US/EU banks and their ops outsourced in India.. i mean if you got friends in these firms you would understand how chillax they're about this. Take the example of AmEx...there's so much slack in the company, got few friends there and all of them don't work more 4 hours a day and that too most of the work some excel and next to shit level of python/sql while their salary in almost 90-95% of avg market (similar to what top paying startups).. Along with that teams are operating at 150% of strength so wlb is heaven there. story is similar with folks in similar US based support ops in india (citi, jp morgan, mastercard, some service based orgs etc) but look the irony of overall market.. you should be efficient and scared about your job as long you're into startups and Indian firms but once you make it captive or offshore centres of these US based firms.. you're life is chill, relax, no bad wlb, practically no layoffs. so you won't find these folks scrambling across GV or fishbowl or like that and getting stressed about seeing how other folks feel when one of the closer startups decided to restructure (i am frustrated because i once let go a offer of top US fintech company to go for a startup and now all i have is regrets given how the events across startup ecosystem are folding like layoffs across Fk, swiggy etc.. and not only layoffs but in general WLB and culture has taken a huge huge hit ::///// ) well it is what it is i guess then :,)

Most people I work with are worth 1Cr+ after 25. I have figured their secret 😛

I have seen a lot of questions here about how to become rich or successful. I initially thought I could make a course and shill it on LinkedIn, but then I decided against it. Context is: I work in a field where most around me are making a lot of money, and typically everyone's a crorepati by 26/27. That's what I have seen. Their secrets: 1. They work 12+ hours a day consistently for 5 days a week, and then some more on Saturday (sometimes Sunday). Even at the peak of covid, when everybody was scared and would avoid working, these fuckers would. 2. They are ultra competitive. They will compete on anything, not just work. They are addicted to poker. They will debate anything during lunch time, no matter how frivolous it is. Pure TYPE A folks. 3. They never complain about working hard. It's just second nature for them. Stems from IIT/IIM days, but continues. They don't question it. (I do, because I am not them) 4. They obsess over money. They constantly try to figure out where they can make more money. All invest actively. 5. They are incredibly well read. Can speak at length on any topic. They truly love going deep into a topic and coming out with the crux of it (or so they may think). Now I know one thing. These are very obvious things. Everybody knows if you do this, you probably would become successful. But my takeaway is to do it. It's super difficult. But at my age, I have no option but to not try, now that I have seen how its done.
