Trump's Potential Victory Could Leave Asia in Trade Dilemma
- The 39th ASEAN Roundtable discussed the potential impact of a Trump victory on Asia's trade. - Some believe that Trump's protectionist policies could lead to brutal tariffs, while others think Asia could benefit from the America-China trade war. - Trump's idea of a 10-20% across-the-board tariff could severely impact Asia, as America is the leading export destination for many Asian countries. - A simulation by Oxford Economics suggests that non-China Asia would be a net loser in a full-blown tariff scenario. - While some Trump loyalists downplay the chances of an all-out trade war, the uncertainty could still hurt commerce.
