What is Sarvam AI?
Sarvam is building a 'sovereign' full-stack AI for India, featuring 'Sarvam-1' (2B parameter Indic model) and 'Sarvam Edge' for on-device, offline processing. Their suite includes Bulbul (voice), Sarvam Vision (document intelligence), and Akshar, a workbench for high-precision knowledge extraction.
You'll be a good fit if you have
- A strong passion for building high-performance backend systems that power real-time, AI-driven conversations at scale.
- Hands-on experience designing and developing APIs (REST/gRPC/WebSocket) with a focus on performance, fault tolerance, and clean architecture.
- Deep understanding of SQL and NoSQL databases, and can design efficient schemas, tune queries, and apply caching strategies to handle massive workloads.
- Experience working with distributed systems, container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes), and major cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
- A solid grasp of event-driven architectures, asynchronous processing, and messaging systems like Kafka or RabbitMQ.
- Proven ability to diagnose and resolve system bottlenecks, ensuring scalability, reliability, and low-latency performance.
- A mindset that values observability — implementing structured logging, tracing, and metrics with tools like Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or OpenTelemetry.
- End-to-end ownership of features — from ideation and design to deployment and monitoring — with a focus on delivering impact.
- Curiosity and enthusiasm for working with conversational AI systems and integrating cutting-edge generative AI models into production.
- A collaborative spirit, eagerness to mentor peers, and willingness to contribute to architectural decisions in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
- (Bonus) Experience with frontend technologies like React, Next.js, or TypeScript, or contributions to open-source projects showcasing your engineering depth.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain backend services by designing scalable APIs (REST/gRPC), building fault-tolerant systems, and ensuring clean, testable code.
- Optimize data storage and retrieval by designing schemas, tuning queries, managing both relational (Postgres/MySQL) and NoSQL (Cassandra/Scylla DB) databases, and applying caching strategies.
- Deliver reliable releases with robust observability using metrics, logs, and traces while ensuring backward compatibility.
- Contribute to system architecture by participating in design discussions, resolving scaling and latency bottlenecks, and driving performance and reliability improvements.
- Champion coding best practices, mentor peers, and stay current with backend and Generative AI technologies.
- Collaborate across teams to integrate AI models into production, define data contracts with frontend and product teams, and work with DevOps for smooth deployments.
