Zomato discouraging WFH

Zomato is strongly discouraging WFH. How do you guys see it when it's competitor Swiggy allows remote work?

You can't blame the management if WFH actually reduces productivity. It's up to the people and culture to make sure that WFH produces equal or more value than WFO.

Many times I have seen people refusing to turn on camera in calls citing network / wardrobe issues. The bare minimum you can do in WFH is to turn on camera so that there is a face to whom you are talking to.

WFH is "more power to you". With power comes responsibility.

Why do you need to see my face?

Do not underestimate the power of personal relationships brother! I have learned that you can't get things done by escalations but you can by knowing people.

His points are not wrong, if there are very few people in office, those who actually come to office, tend to be less productive and try to end the day earlier (specially during holiday season) + the delays in response from team members who are wfh enhances the feeling of ‘why the fuck am I working if these people aren’t’ (please note that going to office in the mind also feels like another work task even if it is not directly related to the business)

If there is a real need of team working from office together then yes, people should come to office else WFH option should always be open imo

But isn't there a retrospective way to look at it? If there were no WFH, work will have stopped 100% here. You cannot blame the holidays here. A police constable has it more difficult that way of either do the duty on diwali or stay with family. WFH enables both albeit at lesser productivity. You cannot behaviour of the people by making the holiday as "optional"

What are eternals? Also, I can understand what they mean. There is a productivity drop with people spending time at home with families and Zomato has more activity on platform during this time.

Perhaps, employees can be incentivised by 1.5x-2x hourly pay for these days.

But why do they want people working from office , even devops are sometimes WFH in other companies What the logic of people coming to office to deliver productivity ? Just care if task is getting delivered well or not by the end of the day , how does being in office help ? Communication is not affected by being remote at all .

😂😂😂 what these so called leaders don’t understand is that brother if you make our festive leaves optional, expect us to work weekends, holidays at no comp off, extra pay, people WILL take WFH and fck off. Everyone needs a life outside of work and zomato as a company fails to respect that. Poora time hustle hustle bologe toh sath mein paisa bhi do hustle ka. Everyday I thank my stars for moving out from this setup where they don’t understand or respect such a basic need as personal time.

I understand the sentiment When you’re a WFO org, shifting to WFH for just a few days does lead to loss of productivity. In permanent WFH workplaces, the ways of working are set, here it isn’t.

Seems like Zomato is on WFO. They’re saying you can take a leave of you need it. It’s probably an overreaction to seeing an empty office, but not problematic surely

Bro you gave an Optional holiday, the team exercised it. What a$%hol£}y is this. If you want people to work don’t give them the option no

Wrong logic , Happens more in office , When you attend shit events by HR , by your VP giving business updates , bloddy uses a full day in office ,sitting physically in front of them and not being able to work on laptop , blody in remote I can even keep ing working in Standup and in meetings , unless i have crontribute something verbally , Remote is better that way if you ring fece your working space and dont allow family to interfere in work . it is better , more time to work avoiided in commuting , more time to learn .
