Would you join a team where there are no QAs and developers have to do the testing itself?

Join a team with no QAs? Nah.....

who am I supposed to fight with then? If I mark my own bugs as ‘Works on My Machine, where’s the thrill of the debate? 😂

Honestly, I’d miss that chaotic-but-necessary bond. There’s no feeling like those 5 PM negotiations where we’d trade off edge cases just to protect the release (and each other).

I need someone to call out my ‘creative’ logic so we can both survive the Sprint Demo in one piece. It’s a love-hate relationship that actually makes the job fun! 🤝🔥...

In short term companies are eliminating QA roles. Dev has to do testing by themselves. There is only a centralised system engineering team.

Personally I am emotional and I feel bad if users suffer because of my code. So I am used to doing the "mostly works" tests myself for my features even irrespective of if there's a QA or not. If it's an early stage startup, it's fine to leave testing to prod, because the users are less the damage is less, unless you're a Fintech app or money is directly involved for fkups (i.e. you are using a third-party APIs that cost you money).
