Is it m2p? I've seen many Chennai based companies having these kind of toxiccc policies in place

Did u know this from offer letter? I believe such nuances we get to know post joining

So how did you end up joining?

How big is the company? Is it a small team where if you are away for more than a week, then a major lag in development happens?

Policies are relative to how high the stakes are. If this case is for a company that has ample engineers & bench strength etc, or at least a company making good profits, then it's shitty.
