Workload vs Career Growth

One common observation in the Indian IT industry, particularly within large MNCs, is a contradiction in managerial expectations. While managers often emphasize the importance of upskilling, taking initiative, and learning new technologies, the reality on the ground sometimes appears different. Many employees find that when they attempt to dedicate time and effort—beyond already long working hours—to learning and self-development, they are instead assigned additional tasks and responsibilities. This creates the perception that managers may, consciously or unconsciously, discourage actual growth opportunities for their teams, thereby limiting career progression.
