working post work hours and on weekends?

Context: I work at a startup, it's a pretty chill work environment, very flexible, hybrid model. Everything is great.

Problem: They take flexible work hours too seriously, I have meetings at 10 PM on weekdays and almost every weekend there's some work which they need the next day in most cases but apparently have to keep the meeting on the weekend with no prior notice.

I mean, i like going to office twice a week around 11-12 and coming back around 7, wfh when I have a few meetings that day but is it normal to work on weekends? and after work hours?

P.S. I've only been in this company for a month and joined as a fresher.

Now that I've put it down, this is such a gen z problem lol

But what should I do?

This isn't the expectation you should be setting. If at all the weekends are time when call is setup call it out, have a discussion with your manager. Let the person know that can the calls be planned better? Also, figure out why the work exists on weekends, early stage startups do have work more and more, even in weekends. If it's something for the org, maybe it would be expected of you. If you both cannot find an agreement over the work, maybe switch to different org.

Also, it goes without saying, if the work is in weekends but it can for sure be on weekdays, be sure to call it out. There's no point in burning yourself off in weekends and weekdays, it will only affect your productivity

He is a fresher so its too overwhelming on him to go and speak to the manager, he needs more time to understand the environment ig then he can only make the decisions

Bro, learn for now and move next year. Either this or u will be unemployed. You should have taken a good decision on joining your first.

i did all the checks, spoke to people there before joining about the culture and everything, checked the reviews but everything was great. It's just me who can't seem to dedicate myself wholeheartedly while being underpaid but maybe the others can

Well, i would have suggested to take it easy and just do the bare minimum, but u ain’t experienced, so only thing is to move forward or else it will damage ur career in the future. You will have more experience with lesser skillset, you cant come back and learn them here.

As a rule of thumb any manager who doesn't respect personal time , means your career is always on a knife edge. These are people who will blame others at the drop of the hat.
They may hide behind the facade of passion but the truth is, they want to grow and people are just a tool. Never work under these psychos...look for ajob and leave on your terms or you will soon be willing to accept their terms.

So it’s barely been a month since I’ve joined this company and my manager has already started dumping his workload to me on weekends and at odd hours late in the night.

Now he’s not a horrible person but I hate how normalised this cult...
