Working on weekends is not a flex. It's a disease.
I am so sick of people bragging about having zero personal life.. You sit in standups and casually drop how you were debugging till 3 AM. How you haven't taken a proper vacation since 2021.
That is not a flex man. It's a massive red flag.
It just tells me you have absolutely no boundaries. You let management walk all over you. And worse, you set a toxic baseline for the rest of us.
Someone at work literally boasted about taking client calls while his wife was in labor. Like bhai, are you okay in the head? Who are you trying to impress? The leadership doesn't give a shit. They will replace you in a week if you drop dead tomorrow.
This whole hustle mindset is a scam. Glorifying burnout like it's a badge of honor.
You're not a hero for skipping family events to fix a prod bug. You're just easily manipulated.
I log off at 6. My laptop stays shut on weekends. If things break on a Sunday, they stay broken till Monday.
Stop making your own exploitation sound like an achievement. It's just embarrassing to watch.
"If things break on a Sunday, they stay broken till Monday."
100%. I've only ever received impromptu work calls on weekends a handful of times, but made sure i tell them I'll get to it whenever I can, even if my laptop was right next to me.

Actually something similar happened
my colleague backend said ki main kal 2 baje tak kaam kiya saare api wagarh krr diye h and when he comes to office he says ki abhi relax krunga
i said in front of everyone ki When i go home i have my own personal life
to which my manager said milind dekho aise kaam hota h ghar prr jaakr bhi kaam kroge toh chize asaan hongi sikhne ko milega
my mind got fucked what bkl this guy is flexing ki work after office and till night is normalise
This post is a reminder that is no fucks is greater than other fucks. It’s all same, thanks for reminding us buddy. IT is not a god job. Any work is fine without pressure.

Let me flex from the other end. For the past year, I haven’t worked a second more than my work shift. Planned my casual leaves for the rest of the year to get maximum joint holidays, haven’t used a single earned leave (I get 12 casual leave which and earned leave can be encashed later) . I do my work honestly, complete everything within the deadline, have a great client relationship , learnt new skills but I’m not bending over backwards to work any unpaid hours ( OT in India is a joke). Don’t give a flying f whether this is going to affect my appraisals or promotions, I’m not gonna retire here and I’m not gonna get my 20s back.

Sometimes passion drives you like this? For me it does. I don't waste time on calls, but when I'm building something I can stretch through the weekends and I feel happy.

There are two types of people doing the same thing with diff intentions. One is just to highlight so that management should take care of this and not happen in the future, and a better plan should be made by the manager. The other is a people-pleaser, like your colleague.

My point is that if work is taking your personal space, one must highlight that too instead of just doing it!

Especially in Indian ib and management consulting front end roles

Ya bro in bhosdiwalonki waja se .. we don’t have any respect in the west. Even trump said we are laptop terrorists or something similar
