Trending @Infosys; Working on weekends

Hi, i recently joined a project but they haven't said anything on working on weekends and today I,e on Saturday they are asking about if I am able to raise a request or not , this can be done on Monday why they ask me to check it today which is holiday.

In my project, every friday the scrum master asks on the teams group - "who is working on this weekend?" On saturday, the project manager would drop a nice quote on whatsapp about teamwork or hardwork.
I are asked to compensate for our personal leaves on weekends. I had some consecutive leaves planned during October, but out of 5 of those, I only got 3 and out of those three, I have to conpensate for 2 on weekends.
You can imagine what kind of project management they are doing. My manager himself is fed up but upper management is only intersted in keeping clients happy, which we got to learn that are not happy at all.

So, as I get to read but experiences like yours and myself having that experience, my only advice would be to stop caring about work. Nothing is more important than your time. If the incentive is not good enough, get out and find something better to do where you can grow and get some meaning out of your life.

Take all of these advises with a pinch of salt. You are starting of in your career. I am a stern advocate of 40hra per week.

  1. Check with your team if this is something which can wait till monday, if not have a look at it.
  2. Check with your team if this is a norm of weekend work and how do they manage with the other days
  3. You are new, so may be you are not aware that there will be certain work which comes up over weekends, and need to be done. Not sure why a new joinee will be assigned
  4. Keep your calendar updated with a high level leave plan for the rest of the year. This is a norm we do with clients as well.

I understand your concern. Sometimes urgent tasks come up unexpectedly. Communicate with your manager about compensation or a comp off. Setting boundaries is crucial for work-life balance.
