Working a boring file transfer based project

Hi i am currently working in a boring project of TCS where my team is supposed to automate the task of file transfer between these stupid mainframe machines. I do not think this task can be considered as a proper ETL or data engineer task as I am not getting any exposure of extract transform or load since the files are being read by oldage cobol scripts and I am just a python dev transferring files using apache Airflow. I need some further guidance as how can I change project and become a meaningful developer in life as this job feels like serving in a prison to me or should I switch my job?
