
Work on Weekend
My supervisor and a person from higher management are forcefully telling us to work on weekends and if we don't do it then they want it to be written in the mail and they are also saying that there will be an impact on salary. What should we do?

In TCS, we value work-life balance. If you're being forced to work on weekends, it's a serious issue. First, check your contract. If it doesn't mention weekend work, you have a right to refuse. Communicate your concerns to your supervisor and HR. If they persist, consider escalating the issue. Remember, your well-being is paramount. It's not just about the salary, it's about your rights as an employee. Stand up for yourself, but do it respectfully.

I am putting my views people may disagree.
- you can't challenge on weekend working as there is no concept of weekend and is very specific to project. There can be a project with 5 or 6 days working also no defined weekend for all. Unfortunately if u r in TCS which means u have already agreed to these terms.
- understand if this is one of the request and for what reason. If lead brings up ur productivity and quality if you complain to HR you cannot defend it.
- HRBP is a role where they have no authority would have got aligned if you are being asked by senior leaders as well.
- try supporting couple of times first and then decline so that you have strong case stating not everytime the manager has asked you have declined.
- you need to understand if this is wrt contract with client where in there is a clause of financial impact due delays in delivery. If that is the case no one TCS is going to talk about work life balance and all those fancy things.

Read this and also understand just that which scenarios you are in you may not be fighting with ur supervisor only you are going against many and not one. Also it may be the case where manager is forced to do this and not willingly doing it. So be careful and watch ur steps. Just going HR and escalating left and right TCS may land u in bigger soup than u think. I have not seen employee wining these kind of battles in TCS. Again to say these are my views.

Drop a mail to hr and all seniors with heading as harassment

What country are you working for? What is given in your sow? Is this communicated to you during the interview? You can’t raise this is a concern for once in a while. If its support project with 24/7 then you need to provide your support provided if it’s communicated to you during your interview.

First ask them to put all this in writing and send it over mail, with your HR in CC. They will never do that, and they have no power over you unless it's in writing.
In the other hand, if they do put a mail, that's enough proof of their unlawful practices. Reply to that mail stating that these are not "Just practices" and the issue will be raised to the unit head if it persists.
