DO ALL OF THEM Be great at your work for the 8 hours that you do

After that, say fuck it. Give time to your family, kid, personal growth.

People manager is something takes a while. In these banks they have fancy titles for individual contributors who lead the Audit project and staffs but don’t have direct people reporting. From my current role Vice President to Executive Director is a long way after tough fight and dealing with politics and losing even more time away from family. May be have to switch company and become people manager.

This is the reality in India. And it has worsened since there are more job seekers than available jobs. Now, employees have no choice as they can't switch jobs easily

At this age and experience, you're a burden to the company if you're not doing extremely well, because they can replace you with 5 cheaper options who can do your mediocre job. The only option to survive if you don't have any options is to suck it up and make time for other things. If you're plenty in your pocket, start saying No. Remember end of the day no matter what decision you take, it's your family that's going to suffer. They'd like to have a dad with a job than a dad who's jobless and spends all the time with family.

You are not helping but scaring.. I’ve been completing more certifications and upskilling by learning new tools already, just to stay current and not a burden

You need to figure out who to give priority to. Some days work might be the front runner but other days you need to know that your kid, wife and parents need you and you need them.

Utilise your holidays fully. Don’t save leaves for years.

And if you have a decent size corpus, take less hikes and make the most of your time.
